Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve broken or lost a tooth. Can it be saved?

A broken or knocked-out tooth can sometimes be saved if you bring the damaged tooth to our office in time. If a tooth has been knocked out, you can try to place it back in the socket to help keep it healthy until you get emergency care. If you can’t place the tooth in the socket, you can keep it in your mouth between your gums and your cheek, or you can put it in a container of cool milk and bring it with you. Don’t try to clean the tooth or wrap it in anything.

Over-the-counter pain medication can bring relief from a toothache. Some patients also get relief by holding a warm or cold compress over the painful area for 15-20 minutes. If you notice bleeding or severe swelling, call our office for assistance.

Go to the ER or call 911 if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, are bleeding heavily or feeling faint, or suspect you’ve broken a bone.
